You can save your document as an OpenOffice file if you think you may edit it later. If you do, you can then eorpxt it as a PDF again. There is a plug in available for OpenOffice to import a PDF. How well it works I am not sure since I have never used it. I believe it is in the Beta experimental state. There are software that can edit PDFs. One other thing that may be a problem in importing a PDF is whether or not it is password protected.
